BY MARSHA SCHICK
Several Church members went out to serve the homeless. But you might be surprised that the primary reason we went out was not to feed them. Jon Ferguson, a Granite Bay member, organized the outing and encouraged those who attended to focus on listening to the stories of those we interacted with and talking with them as friends.
That afternoon was a huge blessing as we sat on the ground in the heat with those who were willing to share their stories with us. We prayed with many, shared materials with them, and eased some of their suffering by sharing slices of watermelon and cold water bottles. As we were approaching this location in Sacramento, it was heart-breaking to see so many who were down and out. We may not end homelessness as a Church but we can be like Jesus and ease some of their discomfort. We are planning to go out again soon. This is the easiest outreach you will ever do!
