BY JEFF COLLINS - PATHFINDER DIRECTOR
Bike-A-Thon
On Sunday, April 7, 2019, the Pathfinders took part in the Northern CA Conference Bike-A-Thon near the Sacramento Airport. None of the Pathfinder children that rode had experienced the Pathfinder Bike-A-Thon. As it was our Director’s first time going, it was a new adventure for our Club. We found out that arriving late means parking far and hauling all your things on foot or by bicycle. Fortunately, we were able to find a spot that was not too distant and carried our things in. We are grateful for Wayne and Otavio, who helped carry chairs, tables, bottled water, and food.
The Pathfinders rode many miles and raised needed funds for our trip to Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Danika rode over 51 miles and earned a special medal and raised over $1,000 in donations. We are so happy Danika is a part of our club! Other Pathfinders that also rode were Nathan, Hansen, Eden, and Tanner.
Pathfinder Fair
Another first for our club was attending the Pathfinder Fair. We set up a booth and the Pathfinders played games and earned honors such as Sanctuary and Taiga. Held in Napa, CA, the day was beautiful.
A Growing Club
We are delighted to welcome Pastor Lucas Rodor and his wife Danielle to our Club. We are also grateful for the following volunteers who have stepped up to join our club as staff: Wayne, Otavio, and Larry . Parents have also shared their commitment to helping with various duties and responsibilities. Thank you so much for your time and energy!
Jackson Meadow Reservoir Camping Trip
As a pre-cursor to our big trip to Wisconsin, the Club decided to have a mini-camping trip July 19-21. In doing so, we were able to know which tents were functional and teach the children how to set up camp. Some Pathfinders earned their Camping Skill honors during the camp out. It was chilly at night and after a Sabbath hike in nature, all Pathfinders slept peacefully and quietly.
2019 Investiture
On Sabbath, August 3rd, the Pathfinders held its 2019 Investiture. Honors were given to Pathfinders that completed the corresponding curriculum. Honorary mention was given to Audrey who has been working hard on completing many honors while living in India. After the honors were given, participants enjoyed a slide show of the year followed by a Pathfinder Pie and ice cream.
What’s Next???
This is the camping trip we have been fundraising for the last two years! Audrey and her family traveled from India to attend. The Pathfinders traveling to Oshkosh are: Eden, Hansen, Audrey, Keziah, Charlyn, Christopher, Danika, Nathan, and Tanner. Please pray for both the children and the adult volunteers attending. May this Camporee be a blessing to our Pathfinders and an unforgettably, wonderful experience!
The 2019 International Camporee begins August 12, 2019 and the Pathfinder Club will leave at 7:30 a.m. from Sacramento Airport. Twenty-three of us will fly to Chicago O’Hare Airport and then will travel to the campsite. Early Sunday morning on August 4th, 54 items including tents, canopy, sleeping bags and most of our clothing was loaded onto a container and shipped. The club purchased over 300 trading pins and Chosen T-shirts for the five days of camp.
Thank you!
Thank you to our Granite Bay Church family for your support of our club. Going to Oshkosh would not be possible without your generosity. Our mission is that this club would be an important part of the children’s walk with Christ.
